On 29 April 2016, the walls of the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette will resound for the fourth year with Swiss Life Luxembourg's Rock Against Cancer concert.
The idea for the event first came about in 2013, as a means of Swiss Life Luxembourg employees supporting the two Luxembourg associations, Fondation Cancer and Foundatioun Kriibskrank Kanner, involved in the fight against cancer. Rock Against Cancer proved highly successful, scopping the 'Trophée de l'Espoir' and becoming an annual event.
The 2016 edition will transport its audience back to the 1980s, with headliner Midge Ure, known for his keyboard-playing for the band Visage and singing as part of Ultravox. It was in 1984 that Midge Ure co-founded Band Aid with Bob Geldof with a view to raising money for anti-famine efforts in Ethiopia and together the two wrote 'Do They Know it's Christmas?', performed by Britain and Ireland's biggest musical acts of the time.
Luxembourg cover band The Noisemakers, made up of 11 talented young musicians, will also be part of the evening, covering the mmost populat songs of pop, rock and new wave in the 80s, whilst DJ Deniz Labong will close the evening with the decade's most famous hits.
The event will also be attended by various officials, including Minister of Health, Lydia Mutsch; Dudelange Mayor, Dan Biancalana; President of the Tourist Office of Esch-sur-Alzette, Mike Hansen; Director of Fondation Cancer Luxembourg, Lucienne Thommes; and Director of the Foundatioun Kriibskrank Kanner, Anne Goeres.
Doors will open at 20:00 with the evening set to begin at 20:30. Tickets cost 20€ and can be purchased here. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/rockagainstcancerlux .
