The CFL, Luxembourg's railway operator, has provided information on the disruption to rail traffic experienced yesterday, Friday 17 January 2025.
Luxembourg – Bascharage - Sanem – Rodange – Athus line
At around 07:36 on Friday 17 January 2025, a technical problem with a train on the Luxembourg – Bascharage - Sanem – Rodange – Athus line required it to stop in the middle of the line, a few hundred metres from the Hollerich train station. When stopping, the train driver noticed a problem with the door locking supervision system.
In view of this problem and to avoid the risk of a passenger leaving the train and potentially being hit by a train travelling in the opposite direction, the driver in question launched a so-called "REC" (rail emergency call). This call resulted in the automatic stopping of all trains in a certain district. Train traffic gradually resumed from 07:56.
BETTEMBOURG LINE
Following emergency maintenance work between Bettembourg and Luxembourg, train traffic on the Luxembourg - Esch/Alzette - Rodange and Luxembourg - Thionville - Metz lines was interrupted between Luxembourg and Bettembourg in both directions until 03:00 on Saturday 18 January 2025.
The CFL set up a replacement bus service, running from Luxembourg to Bettembourg and vice versa, without stops, while maintenance teams worked to resolve the problem.
Due to this work, the frequency of trains on the Luxembourg – Esch/Alzette – Rodange line was affected. While train traffic on the Luxembourg – Thionville – Metz line was interrupted, trains to/from Thionville resumed from 17:39.
The CFL has advised passengers to consult the CFL mobile application or the timetable search on the website https://www.cfl.lu.
