Luxembourg's railway company, the CFL, has announced its planned maintenance works for the rail network over the All Saints' school holiday period.

The CFL will carry out maintenance and upkeep work on several railway lines during this period. This will mean the disruption of train traffic on several lines. The CFL noted that it is prioritising school holiday periods to carry out work on the rail network in order to limit the impact on customers and take advantage of the availability of school buses, which can be used as replacement buses.

Luxembourg – Ettelbruck – Diekirch route

No trains will be running between these stations from Saturday 26 October 2024 at 02:00 until Sunday 3 November 2024 inclusive. Replacement buses will be available during this period. The CFL will carry out various maintenance works to continue to ensure its safety and quality standards, in particular by cleaning aqueducts, clearing and pruning operations, replacing sleepers that have reached the end of their service life and checking road bridges spanning the railway line between Luxembourg and Mersch. As part of the recent commissioning of the new control station on the entire route of the Northern Line, which is expected, among other things, to optimise and simplify lateral railway signaling, the CFL will dismantle elements of the old railway signalling, which are now obsolete.

Kautenbach – Wiltz route

No trains will be running between Kautenbach and Wiltz on Friday 1 November 2024 from 05:30 to 11:30. The CFL will also carry out works to dismantle the obsolete lateral railway signalling elements on this section (in both directions).

Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon route

No trains will be running between these stations from Saturday 26 October 2024 at 01:00 until Sunday 3 November 2024 inclusive. Replacement buses will be available during this period. Work on sanitation (gutters, drainage) as well as on tracks and accesses will be carried out to maintain optimal safety conditions for CFL staff working near the railway tracks. Clearing operations are also planned to continue to ensure the safety of train traffic.

Luxembourg – Esch-sur-Alzette – Rodange route

No trains will be running between Esch-sur-Alzette and Rodange from Saturday 26 October 2024 at 01:00 until Friday 1 November 2024 at 00:00. Replacement buses will be available during this period. The interruption of train traffic will allow the CFL to carry out several infrastructure restoration operations at Differdange station, including clearing operations, replacing rails, renewing the PN15 level crossing (Avenue Charlotte) and installing a new shelter for passengers. The CFL noted that it is also carrying out major restoration and modernisation work at the Esch-sur-Alzette station. In order to coordinate and optimise the schedules of interventions by mobility and public works stakeholders, the National Roads Administration will also begin the renewal of the "Schwaarzbreck" bridge in Oberkorn.

Luxembourg – Dippach-Reckange – Rodange – Athus / Longwy routes

Traffic between these stations will be impacted by total or partial interruptions to train traffic on sections of these lines from Friday 1 November 2024 at 01:00 until Wednesday 13 November 2024 (inclusive). During this period, the CFL will set up either replacement buses or train alternatives. Works include carrying out concrete sleeper replacement operations.

Further information on travel options during the planned works is available on the CFL website (www.cfl.lu) or via the CFL mobile app. Alternatively, customers may contact the CFL Call Center by tel.: 2489-2489 or reach out to CFL staff in trains and stations.
