Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, has announced that rail traffic will be interrupted on the Ettelbruck – Gouvy and Kautenbach – Wiltz sections of the Northern Line (Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy) from Saturday 31 August to Sunday 15 September 2024 inclusive.

Given the exponential growth in the number of passengers (+100% in less than 20 years) and the new record number of passengers set at the end of 2023 (28.7 million customers transported), CFL noted that it is continuing to modernise and maintain Luxembourg’s rail network.

To limit the impact of the maintenance and modernisation work on the Northern Line (new integrated management position and infrastructure to optimise the electrical power supply to this line), CFL has planned to carry out this work during the school holidays and after the end of the collective holiday in the construction sector. In their planning, the CFL also took into account the wishes of many passengers to attend the 2024 edition of the "Schueberfouer" which has been open since 23 August 2024.

To support their customers during the works starting on 31 August, the CFL has organised a replacement bus service departing from the affected stations. Customers can find details of the replacement buses on the website www.cfl.lu as well as via the CFL mobile application.

For those wishing to (re)discover the North of Luxembourg with their bicycles during the works, CFL added it has provided a special bicycle shuttle service. Free of charge, this service will run every two hours between Ettelbruck and Troisvierges, with stops at Schinker and Clervaux. More information and the reservation form are available on the CFL website.
