After it was announced that the Bettembourg-Thionville railway would not be able to reopen as expected following damage caused by heavy rainfall, the Société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois (CFL) has reported it expects normal circulation between the two towns to be resumed from Monday 6 June 2016.
As a result of the exceptional weather conditions that have afflicted the country over the last week, the CFL will be performing this weekend on restoring and repairing the switching station in Bettembourg for the Bettembourg-Thionville section, which should be completed Saturday, with subsequent safety tests of the railway line to be performed the following Sunday. If all goes well, passenger rail traffic should resume on Monday morning at 04:00 according to the normal schedule.
The current reduced train service, offering one train per hour, should remain in place until this evening, with passengers asked to keep an eye on detailed schedules on the CFL's home page ( www.cfl.lu ).
Daytime buses will run from 05:30 between Thionville and Bettembourg, with customers in Bettembourg able to use the train line 60 ( Rodange - Esch/Alzette - Luxembourg), running every 15 minutes, to reach Luxembourg Gare. From 20:00, buses will travel from Luxembourg to Thionville and from Luxembourg to Metz, all via Bettembourg and Hettange-Grande.
TGVs 2853 (starting in Luxembourg from 06:05) 2855 (starting in Luxembourg at 6:40), 2881 (starting in Luxembourg at 17:09) and 2891 (starting in Luxembourg at 18:59) will be replaced by buses connecting customers to the TGV Gare Lorraine where they can then reach their trains.
