Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children, and Youth recently announced new secondary school programmes for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The ministry reported that it continues to adapt its educational offer to changes in society and the job market with the aim of offering children and young people the best chances for success in their adult lives.

The 2025/2026 academic year will see the introduction of several new programmes ("sections") in general secondary education. These include:

- Music Production (Production Musicale - GPM), which aims to prepare students for a career in the music and event management fields. At the Lycée Michel Lucius (LML), interested students will be able to learn sound recording and mixing techniques. The programme also includes an introduction to the inner workings of the cultural sector, particularly music, as well as the basics of music theory and the mathematical and physical principles necessary for understanding music. Throughout their studies in the GPM section, which extends from the 4e to 1e classes, students will work on real-life projects and have the opportunity to meet professionals from the Luxembourg music industry and cultural world. Admission to the GPM section requires successful completion of a 5G class at the "generally advanced" ("globalement avancé") level. A "strong" ("fort") level in social sciences and a "sufficient" ("suffisant") level in natural sciences, or vice versa, are other prerequisites. Admission is based on application.

- Economic Affairs (Affaires Économiques - GAE), which offers a solid foundation for entrepreneurship. The School of Business and Management (École de Commerce et de Gestion) is offering this section, starting in the 2025/2026 academic year, to 2e and 1e students (final two years of secondary school). It will focus on the fundamental principles of economics and business creation, as well as entrepreneurial skills. The GAE section features a weekly entrepreneurship day, giving students the opportunity to work on concrete and innovative projects. Students will also have the opportunity to meet local entrepreneurs in practical workshops, at conferences or through case studies. The section is open to students who have completed a 3e level General Administration and Business Division, a 3e Classical D (Economics and Mathematics) or a 3e Classical N (Entrepreneurship, Finance and Marketing) section.

- Data Literacy section for future data specialists. The ministry noted that, in a world marked by the exponential growth of digital data, data analysis specialists are increasingly sought after. To meet this need, the School of Business and Management will launch the Data Literacy (GDL) section for the 2025/2026 academic year. Data literacy not only means knowing how to collect, read, understand, analyse and interpret data, but also understanding how it is used, assessing its reliability and credibility, and recognising the biases and risks associated with the use of this information. During their studies in the GDL classes in the final two years (2e and 1e) of secondary school, students will learn to critically examine data in order to make informed decisions and contribute to the development of solutions to challenges in various fields. The GDL section, which paves the way to higher education in the field of data science, is open to students who have successfully completed one of the following classes: 3e level General Administration and Business, 3e Classical B (Mathematics and Computer Science), 3e Classical D (Economics and Mathematics) or 3e Classical N (Entrepreneurship, Finance and Marketing) section.

- Adult educator training in French: the ministry noted that the educator profile is highly sought after on the job market, as educators work in many settings for early childhood, people with special needs, adolescents and the elderly. Starting in the 2025/2026 academic year, educator training will also be offered in French at the National School for Adults (École Nationale pour Adultes - ENAD) in Esch-Belval. The work-study educator training course is an on-the-job training programme for individuals aged 21 or over, with an employment contract and at least twelve months of experience in the socio-educational field.

New South Campus for the Luxembourg School of Hospitality and Tourism (École d'Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg): currently located in Diekirch, the EHTL will open a second site in the south of the country, specifically in Wickrange, in September 2025. The establishment of the EHTL in the GridX building aims to make its educational offer more accessible to students residing in the south and centre of the country. Starting in the 2025/2026 academic year, the following programmes will be offered in the first year: Vocational Aptitude Diploma (DAP) - Restaurateur; Technician's Diploma (DT) - Hospitality and Management; DT - Tourism and Communication; General Secondary School Leaving Certificate in Hospitality Management. Specific training courses for people with international protection status is also included in the EHTL Wickrange offer. In 2026, other programmes will be added, namely: DAP - Server / Waiter; DAP - English-speaking Restaurateur; Higher Technician Certificate (BTS) - Hospitality Management; BTS - Tourism and Communication.
