On Wednesday 7 August 2024, Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth confirmed that 5,609 out of 5,635 primary school pupils will progress to secondary education.
At the end of the 2023/2024 school year, an orientation decision was taken for 5,635 pupils in primary education. 5,609 students will continue on to secondary education; 26 students will undertake an extended cycle 4 in 2024/2025.
Of the 5,635 pupils in question:
- 39.9% will continue to a first year (7e) class in a classical secondary school (7e C);
- 46.3% will join a first year class in a general secondary school (7e G);
- 13.3% were directed towards the preparatory pathway (7th P);
- 0.5% will continue an extended primary school cycle in 2024/2025.
The ministry added that the orientation rates towards the different levels of secondary education remained stable within the range of the "very slight" fluctuations of recent years.
The rate of agreement between parents and teachers remained "very high", at 99.6%.
