After months of renovation, the iconic Charly's Gare restaurant in Senningerberg (2 rue du Golf) has reopened, blending a refreshed atmosphere with the charm of its former soul.
The restaurant now offers a bistronomic and Italian-inspired menu, combining best-loved classics with some new dishes. Traditional pizzas remain on the menu, joined by flavours from cuisines from around the world: Portuguese-style flambéed scampi, Italian burgers, coconut milk curry and a variety of other original specialities.
The old railway station building, dating back to 1904, has been well preserved in its early 20th-century style. Similar stations were built in Junglinster, Bech and Helmstal. Its red-brick facade, highlighted with yellow sandstone, original features remain such as a round neo-Gothic window and a baroque balustrade on the gable.
The Charly railway, which ran from 1904 until 1954, once connected Luxembourg City to Echternach along nearly 46 km of track, carving its place in the Grand Duchy's transport heritage, carrying both passengers and goods. After closing in the 1950s, the old railway gave way to today's cycling and walking trails, with some stations and tunnels preserving the historical character from yesteryear.
