Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth and the Municipal Administration of Schifflange have confirmed the extension of distance learning in primary schools in the municipality of Schifflange until Tuesday 23 February 2021 inclusive.
Last week, Luxembourg's Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, announced that schools would reopen as planned after the Carnival holidays, on Monday 22 February 2021, albeit under stricter health regulations.
However, following an analysis of the evolution of COVID-19 infections at primary schools in the municipality of Schifflange, namely the Albert Wingert, Nelly Stein and Lydie Schmit schools, the Directorate of Health has recommended that the municipality take additional preventive measures in the context of education.
Consequently, the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth and the municipality of Schifflange have decided to take the following measures in order to curb the spread of the virus within the school population:
- an extension of distance education: pupils from primary schools in the municipality of Schifflange will continue with distance learning until Tuesday 23 February 2021 inclusive. The maisons de relais in Schifflange will remain closed during this period. Parents concerned can apply for family leave.
- large-scale screening tests: the National Health Laboratory (Laboratoire national de santé - LNS) is organising a large-scale screening test of the entire school community of the schools concerned, on the school premises, on Monday 22 February 2021. The regional management will communicate the relevant information to parents.
Pupils testing negative will resume face-to-face lessons from Wednesday 24 February 2021.
