The head of Bambino Foundation Mrs. Maina Mkandawire visited St George’s International School on Monday 11 January 2016.
Bambino Foundation founded in 2011 strives to systematically increase the number of community schools whilst empowering rural villages to take on responsibilities for their own educational development.
During Mrs. Mkandawire’s presentation, she asked the students simple questions such as how they got to school every day which provoked students to think about how fortunate they are to be simply able to hop onto transport to get to school whilst students in Malawi walk at least 5km to attend school. The Primary students heard first-hand the benefits of their fundraising initiatives and what children in Malawi go through on a day-to-day basis. Some students gasped when they heard about the extremely high temperatures, and the scarcity of stationery available - to name just a few challenges students in Malawi face.
The opportunity to meet Mrs. Mkandawire truly benefitted the students; not only did it allow them to realise how fortunate they are but it also put all the hard work the students do to raise money into clear perspective.
