In the framework of National Housing Week at Luxexpo, the Youth Day of the Ministry of Housing took place on 14 October 2015, bringing together school classes to inform young people of the social, conceptual and energy challenges related to housing.
The event was organised in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, myenergy and the Order of Architects and Consulting Engineers. Under the themes of 'Zefridde Wunnen: meng Stad vu Muer' and 'Nei Wunnformen a passiv bauen', six classes of the Lycée Josy Barthel in Mamer were brought together to take part in awareness workshops.
These workshops allowed the young participants to reflect on their future visions of the city by addressing issues such as sustainable development, urban planning and key factors for welfare, new forms of housing and built environment. Two students from each group then presented their respective results before an assembly constituted of participating students and visitors, teachers and Secretary of State for Housing, Marc Hansen, the latter of which commented on each workshop before delivering a Q&A session.
The Ministry reported that the student projects from the Lycée Josy Barthel and Lycée Classique d'Echternach provided a valuable contribution into Youth Day and an insight into the creativity of young people in the country.
The Youth Day of the Ministry of Housing took place ahead of three agreements signed with various towns and organisations, which will see the Ministry offer partial financial support to the social rental management actions of collaborating associations. New partners include Caritas Luxembourg, Stëmm vun der Strooss and the town of Diekirch.
