On Thursday 17 October 2024, DP International, the international wing of Luxembourg's Democratic Party, announced the election of Christos Floros as its new president.
DP International noted that Christos Floros succeeds Luis Oliveira, who is voluntarily stepping down to "allow for fresh vision and dynamic leadership" within the international wing of the party. The new president will take over his duties starting in November 2024.
Mr Floros is set to lead efforts in growing the party's international membership and promoting inclusive debate reflecting Luxembourg's diverse population.
An architect by profession who works in Luxembourg's technology sector in Marketing and Communications, Christos Floros brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role. DP International added that his commitment to political inclusion has focused on expanding the voice of all residents in Luxembourg, including foreign residents and newly naturalised citizens by encouraging political participation. He previously ran in the June 2024 European Parliament elections as a candidate for the Democratic Party.
In taking on this leadership role, Mr Floros aims to continue the work of DP International in ensuring that all residents, regardless of their background, feel empowered to engage with their local communities and that the party remains representative of Luxembourg's diverse population.
"I am honoured to take on this responsibility and lead DP International. Together, we will work to ensure that Luxembourg remains an inclusive, forward-looking country where everyone feels at home and all are empowered to participate. I want to thank Luis for his total commitment over the last five years to this incredibly important wing of our large, inclusive, democratic party and for the trust the party places onto me to continue this work. My first task will be to build a great team around me, to deliver on this mission," commented Christos Floros, incoming President of DP International.
"I am very grateful that my colleagues in the DP International board, as well as the party leadership, have accepted my proposal to confirm Christos Floros as my successor. With him, the current committee, new board members and support from our members, our group will continue to grow dynamically and be prepared for the challenges of the coming years," said outgoing president Luis Oliveira.
Under Christos Floros' leadership, DP International has said it will focus on further enabling all residents to engage actively with the party, ensuring that local sections reflect the "true diversity" of Luxembourg. By focusing on inclusion and participation, DP International confirmed it will continue its mission to make Luxembourg a place where everyone can contribute and feel represented.
