On Wednesday 28 October 2026, Luxembourg trade union LCGB welcomed the proposed tax reform scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2028, highlighting its potential to reduce inequalities and ease the tax burden for the majority of taxpayers.

The trade union issued its statement as Bill No 8676, which provides for the introduction of a single tax class, was submitted to a vote in Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies.

According to the LCGB, the reform will address several existing inequalities and reduce the tax burden for most taxpayers. The trade union also welcomed the automatic adjustment of tax brackets to inflation and improvements for single-parent families.

The LCGB noted that these measures reflect long-standing demands included in its 2025 action programme.

The trade union described the reform as an important step towards greater equality of opportunity between generations, identifying young people and parents among its main beneficiaries.

While welcoming the proposed changes, the LCGB called for further tax relief to improve fairness within Luxembourg's taxation system.
