Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed that a total of 3,847 candidates are running for 1,121 mandates in this year's municipal (local) elections.
According to official statements listed by the ministry, 1,483 women (38.55%) and 2,364 men (61.45%) are candidates for the municipal elections taking place on Sunday 11 June 2023.
3,468 of the candidates are Luxembourgers (90.15%), whilst 379 are non-Luxembourgers (9.85%). The ministry recalled that dual nationals (with Luxembourgish citizenship) are considered Luxembourgers in this context, according to the rules followed by STATEC and Eurostat.
The ministry also noted that no election will take place in the following six municipalities, since the number of candidates does not exceed that of the mandates to be filled in the municipal council: Bourscheid, Nommern, Stadtbredimus, Vichten, Weiler-la-Tour and Winseler.
