On Friday 22 April 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, Carole Dieschbourg, announced her resignation in a press conference following the confirmation from the Public Prosecutor's Office that the file relating to the so-called "Gaardenhaischen" case was sent on 21 April 2022 to the President of the Chamber of Deputies.

Pursuant to Articles 82 and 116 of the Constitution, only the Chamber of Deputies has the discretionary power to accuse a member of the Government.

The Green Party (déi gréng) issued a statement explaining that Minister Dieschbourg announced that she is resigning from her post in order to facilitate the investigation of the Public Prosecutor's Office, to contribute with her explanations to the clarification of the case in question and thus to ensure maximum transparency.

The party executive will discuss the question of the successor in a timely manner and will submit a proposal to an extraordinary party congress, the statement confirmed.
