Luxembourg Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn yesterday met with his Rwandan counterpart Louise Mushikiwabo in Luxembourg.
As part of her working visit to Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn received the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Community of East Africa of the Republic of Rwanda, Louise Mushikiwabo, at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs for an interview on 3 October 2018.
The ministers' discussions first welcomed the historically very strong bilateral relations that exist between the two countries. Indeed, Luxembourg has been implementing development cooperation projects for nearly 25 years in Rwanda, particularly in the areas of integrated rural development and health, where the Grand Duchy has played a pioneering role in the field of modernisation of agriculture and vocational training in rural areas, hospital infrastructures and the fight against HIV / AIDS.
The ministers also mentioned several issues of common interest that allow to continue the diversification of relations, the economic component now playing a more important role. Luxembourg will continue to support Rwanda in the field of finance with initial contacts having been established between the Luxembourg House of Training and the Rwandan Bankers Association to continue providing training in the banking sector and to support the establishment of a Rwandan Banking Institute. In order to further strengthen economic and trade relations, the relevance of a non-double taxation agreement was raised.
As Rwanda currently holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, discussions followed on the reform projects of this important institution for the African continent. The two ministers also discussed current news concerning the Great Lakes region and the European Union.
