The Quadripartite Committee pushed forward improvements for sickness and maternity insurance during their meeting yesterday attended by Social Security Minister Etienne Schneider and Health Minister Lydia Mutsch.
According to the latest financial data on sickness and maternity insurance, the current account balance was €181.7 million in 2016, after a balance of €105.1 million in 2015 (€5.9 million in 2014 and -€22.5 million in 2013). The estimates show a positive balance of €178 million for 2017.
Thus, the global reserve for sickness and maternity insurance was €587.2 million in 2016, representing an overall reserve of 23.6%. It is expected to be €765 million at the end of 2017, representing a rate of 28.8%.
"The good financial situation of sickness and maternity insurance allows us to introduce benefits for the insured, such as those that came into effect on 1 January 2017, such as dental care and visual aids, which are currently being implemented. I am pleased that the social partners and the service providers support the establishment of a working group that will develop viable avenues to be discussed at the meeting of the quadripartite committee in October. Also, I am very confident that the insured will eventually benefit from further improvements,” said Minister Schneider.
