Luxembourg Minister for Equal Opportunities, Lydia Mutsch, is travelling to New York on 11 March to attend the 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, a commission created by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and devoted exclusively to the promotion of gender equality and women.
The theme this year is "The economic empowerment of women in a changing world of work” in relation to which Minister Mutsch intends to address the Plenary Assembly on policies that will truly promote the economic empowerment of women in a world that is still stacked against them.
"Faced with the systematic questioning of women 's rights by many political leaders in all parts of the world, it is now more than ever necessary to unite our forces to defend in a decisive way the achievements and to advance the" Equality between women and men,” she said.
The minister will present national policy priorities, including recent legislative changes in the area of equal pay for men and women and legal quotas in politics, at a meeting of Equality Ministers from EU Member States, European Union. She will also represent Luxembourg at a meeting of the Security Council dedicated to trafficking in conflict situations.
