Jean Asselborn, Luxembourg’s minister of foreign and European affairs, was in Paris today for a working meeting with François Hollande, the president of the French Republic.
The parlous state of the European project was at the forefront of discussions, which highlighted the need to strengthen the internal cohesion of the EU by returning to its core principles of freedom, the rule of law, democracy, solidarity and human dignity.
The representatives agreed that, with those thoughts in mind, priority should be given to growth and employment in the interests of all EU citizens, and in particular the most vulnerable.
Minister Asselborn and President Hollande also examined the EU’s role as a global actor, and its means for reacting to crises in neighbouring regions, as well as the interests and priorities of the EU's foreign security policy, and its implementation instruments for its foreign and defence policy.
