Luxembourg armed forces will participate in the deployment of NATO troops in Lithuanian in the second half of 2017, forming part of the multinational battalion under German control, of which Belgian and Dutch troops are also members.

The Luxembourg deployment, consisting of 22 soldiers, will be integrated into a Belgian transport company for six months from 1 July.

The Grand Duchy will also provide satellite capacity in Lithuania, including four military specialists in information and communication systems who will be deployed for 10 days to establish a satellite link between the battalion command post at Rukla and the Bundeswehr operational center in Potsdam Germany.

The deployments are part of the Enhanced Forward Presence maintained in the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland following the events in Ukraine in 2014.
