On Friday 17 June 2016, the President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, was in Luxembourg to discuss bilateral relations, the economic and humanitarian political situation in Burkina Faso and West Africa in general, as well as the challenges that await the country in the short- and medium-term.
The president was received by Prime Minister, Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, for a meeting at the Hôtel de Bourgogne, and the Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider.
Minister Schneider and President Kaboré discussed the regional security situation in Burkina Faso during a working lunch, with the latter thanking Luxembourg for its continued support even through the socio-political crisis from 2014 to 2015. The Indicative Cooperation Programme (ICP) was originally scheduled to expire at the end of 2015, but was extended by one year to allow for the new authorities to be put in place and so that a dialogue could be held regarding the ICP 2017-2021.
The ICP 2017-2021 (ICP III) will be signed before autumn 2016, forming part of the joint programming dynamic of the EU. It will focus on youth, vocational training and employment according to the concept of human capital.
The Burkinabe President was received in audience by HRH the Grand Duke at the Grand Ducal Palace.
A meeting with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Mars Di Bartolomeo, as well as members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Immigration, also featured in the programme.
