On Thursday, the Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, was invited to speak on the occasion of the Standing Conference of Interior Ministers of the German States (IMK).
The Conference meets twice a year in spring and autumnn and its members are permanent ministers and senators of the German states. This year's spring conference was held from 15 to 17 June 2016 in Mettlach-Orscholz and was chaired by Klaus Bouillon, Minister of the Interior and of Sports of Saarland.
During his speech aboard the M.S. "Princesse Marie-Astrid", Minister Kersch highlighted the achievements of the Schengen agreements which facilitate the mobility and the free movement of people, whilst establishing enhanced cooperation in security.
"Who targets Schengen, targets Europe," the Minister stated, criticising countries benefitting from the irresponsible arms trade. "War is ultimately conducted with weapons, it is up to supplier countries to put in place strict control rules on weapons trade," he added.
