On Thursday 16 June 2016, Luxembourg Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, and Minister of Social Security, Romain Schneider, will attending the "Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs" (EPSCO) Council meeting.
The discussions will cover the "Employment and Social Security" components of the proposal from the European Commission's specific recommendations addressed to Member States. These form part of the European Semester process.
Ministers will review some legislative issues and aim to adopt certain conclusions of the EU Council, in particular in the fight against poverty and social dialogue and equal opportunities.
The issue of social protection for the self-employed - a subject which is grown steadily in importance in Europe in recent years - will also be discussed during a working lunch.
The day before the Council, Minister Schmit will preside a meeting of socialist and social democrat Ministers of Labour and Employment as Chairman of the Group of Socialists and Social Democratic Ministers of the EPSCO Council.
