Luxembourg Minister of Sustainable Development and Transport, François Bausch, will be attending the unique Transport Council being held today in Luxembourg under the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The agenda will primarily address topics related to international aviation, and a debate on the revelations that certain car manufacturers have used manipulation devices to change the results of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions tests.
The Council is expected to adopt mandate authorising the Commission to open negotiations on global agreements on air transport with the ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey. These mandates must be adopted unanimously by the Council.
The ministers are also due to exchange views on preparations for the next meeting of the Internatinal Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which aims to adopt a global market mechanism for dealine with CO2 emissions in international aviation.
In addition, the Council will take note of a report on the progress made in the proposal for a revision of the common safety rules in the field of civil aviation and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The Council will also be invited to adopt a general approach on the new rules for the recognition of professional qualifications in terms of river navigation, which aims to promote the mobility of workers in this sector.
