On 23 and 24 May 2016, Lydia Mutsch will participate in the 69th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) as the Minister of Health of Luxembourg.
The supreme decision-making body of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the WHA taking place throughout next week at the Palais des Nations in geneva brings together delegations from Member States. It sets policy directions for the organisation, controls its financial policy and approves the proposed programme budget.
This year, Member States will discuss a WHO proposal to increase the budget ot US$160 million, enabling the WHO to better respond to global health emergencies such as the yellow fever, Ebola or Zika virus epidemics.
Under the general theme of sustainable development objectives for 2030, adopted in New York late last year, this edition of the WHA will tackle varying subjects from child obesity, healthy ageing, the WHO reform to issues on the global health plan and the fight against antibiotic resistance.
On Monday 23 May 2016, Minister Mutsch will participate in a high-level panel devoted to dementia, looking to generate international momentum including from developing countries, faced with the challenges of disease. Luxembourg's Health Minister will address the plenary on 24 May 2016.
