On Friday 20 May 2016, Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will participate in two EU meetings in Brussels.
The Minister will join in the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels, where ministers will exchange views on visa policy by addressing the recent Commission proposal on the revision of the suspension mechanism which can be applied to all existing agreements regarding the liberalisation of the visa regime.
The Council will then review the status of the implementation of the EU-Turkey statement of 18 March, before being informed on developments in the proposal for a European Border Guard Body.
The Minister has also been invited by his Belgian counterpart, Didier Reynders, to attend the meeting of the founding countries of the EU also being held in Brussels in the presence of the Foreign Ministers of Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands.
The purpose of the meeting is to continue the reflection initiated in the framework of the preparation of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, looking to strengthen the EU's internal cohesion by returning to the fundamental principles of the European construct. Ministers will exchange views on the external aspects of the migration issues, paying particular attention to the Sahel region.
