Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, will participate in an informal meeting on the resivision of the directive on the posting of workers taking place in Vienna on 19 and 20 May 2016.

Minister Schmit will be in attendance at the invitation of his Austrian counterpart, Alois Stöger.

"Mobility and particularly the posting of workers have become very sensitive and polarising topics in the European Union," commented Minister Schmit ahead of the meeting. "The abuses regarding detachment lead to social dumping, discrimination of posted workers and unfair competition. If we want to ensure social convergence from above and renew the confidence of citizens in relation to the European Union, we must forge a common understanding of fair mobility. The revision of the 1996 Directive is essential."

European Commissioner Marianne Thyssen and Swedish Minister for Employment, Ylva Johansson, will also be participating.
