On Friday 13 May 2016, Jean Asselborn will participate in the Foreign Affairs Council - Commerce of the European Union taking place in Brussels.
The Council will discuss the follow-up to the ministerial conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) which was held in Nairobi in December 2015. It will analyse two outstanding issues under the Doha Development Agenda and new issues to be addressed by the WTO.
Ministers present will take stock of negotiations with the United States on the establishment of a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). They will also consider a draft EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) .
Also on the agenda will be the crisis in the steel industry, with ministers discussing how to make progress in negotiations with the European Parliament regarding "minerals from conflict zones". One proposal is to minimise the risk of financing armed groups through the sale of minerals and metals in areas affected by conflict.
