Closed Internal Security Session Focuses on Exchange of Information

On Thursday 21 April 2016, Deputy Prime Minister, Étienne Schneider, attended the 'Internal Security' component of the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council in Luxembourg in his capacity as the country's Minister of Internal Security.

Discussions focused on the exchange of information, particularly regarding food and the systematic consultation of European and international databases. Minister Schneider stressed in this context the need to develop a coordinated and united European approach to terrorism. Noting that the Union already has an array of effective instruments, the minister called for the better use of the device in place. Given the sensitivity of the subject, the meeting was held in closed session.

Étienne Schneider welcomed the adoption of the directive on the use of passenger name records (PNR) in the fight against terrorism and organised crime.
