At a Cabinet meeting held on Monday 18 April 2016, the Counciil approved the draft Grand Ducal Regulation submitting the license to import, export and transit certain goods originating from or being brought to Iran.
The draft Grand Ducal Regulation, which implements the lifting of nuclear-related economic sanctions against Iran, follows the verification by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in January earlier this year that Iran has implemented the agreed nuclear-related measures established in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The JCPOA was agreed in July 2015 by China, France, Germany, Russia, the U.K. and the U.S., along with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, who announced last month a trip to Tehran planned for mid-April with the aim of further exploring potential areas for cooperation with Iran, particularly in the fields of trade and investment, energy, migration and human rights, among others.
"This achievement clearly demonstrates that with political will, perseverance, and through multilateral diplomacy, we can solve the most difficult issues and find practical solutions that are effectively implemented," Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, announced in a joint statement in January 2016. "This is an encouraging and strong message that the international community must keep in mind in our efforts to make the world a safer place."
The Luxembourg Government reported on Monday that some restrictions, however, will remain in force.
