Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will travel to Geneva on Friday 8 April 2015 to participate in the High Level Segment of the Geneva Conference on Preventing Violent Extremism.
Organised by the Swiss Government in collaboration with the United Nations, the conference is an opportunity for members of the international community to share their experiences and best practices in dealing with the causes of violent extremism.
Discussions will also aim to continue on the path towards adopting a comprehensive strategy that includes not only the essential, safety-based measures to fight against terrorism which have already been implemented, but also systematic preventive measures that directly address the casues of violent extremism at the local, national, regional and global levels.
From Friday 8 to Saturday 9 April 2016, the Minister will then be in Hanover at the invitation of Minister-President of Lower Saxony Stephan Weil. Minister Asselborn will hold a joint meeting with Stephan Weil and MEP, Chairman of the International Trade Commission of the European Parliament, Bernd Lange, to address European political dossiers.
The Minister will then travel to the SPD Landesparteitag Niedersachsen to deliver a speech on the theme of 'Europa am Wendepunkt' ('Europe at a Crossroads').
