From 26 to 28 April 2016, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy of Luxembourg, Étienne Schneider, was in the United Arab Emirates for a working visit which included several meetings with UAE officials.

Minister Schneider held a meeting with High Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rachid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, regarding the official candidacy of Luxembourg to participate in the World Expo being held in Dubai in 2020.

To this end, another exchange was held with HE Reem Ebrahim Al-Hashimi, Minister of State and in charge of organising this major event. Held under the primary theme 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future', and with sustainable development as the central topic, the upcoming World Expo will expect to accommodate 25 million visitors and nearly 250 official participants.

In order to identify cooperation between the two countries as regards the exploration and utilisation of space resources, as well as creating synergies in the field of space research, Étienne Schneider met with leaders of the UAE Space Agency and officials of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre in Dubai.

During his time in the UAE, the Deputy Prime Minister also held a meeting with representatives of a large UAE hotel group which is looking to move to Luxembourg in order to increase hotel capacty, particularly for the future national development of congress and business tourism. The hotel group has not been named.
