On Friday, Lydia Mutsch, Luxembourg’s Minister of Equal Opportunities, attended a conference on “femmes dans la prise de decision” (women in decision making) in Bergem, between Schifflange and Bettembourg.
At the conference, organised by the Commission de l’Égalité of the municipality of Mondercange, Minister Mutsch discussed the efforts from the government to improve the situation regarding economic decision making. Since December 2013 the government has appointed 36.88% women to sit on the boards of public institutions and private companies.
A bill filed by the Minister regarding legal gender quotas for parliamentary and European elections was discussed, as well as the mobilisation campaign for a better balance between the representation of men and women in local councils in Luxembourg for the next local elections in 2017.
She also stressed the important role of the municipality regarding gender balance policies at a local level.
