From 12 to 18 March 2016, Luxembourg Minister for Equal Opportunities, Lydia Mutsch, will be in New York to attend the 60th session United Nations (UN) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The CSW is a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council and is a global decision-making body exclusively focused on the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment.
Each year, representatives of UN Member States gather at the organisation's headquarters in New York to assess progress made in terms of gender quality, as well as identify challenges, set global standards and formulate policies. For 2016, the theme on which the meeting will be focused will be 'The Empowerment of Women and the Link to Sustainable Development'.
Minister Mutsch is due to address the plenary and will speak during a ministerial round table on the theme of 'Strengthening Normative, Legal and Policy Frameworks for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment'.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Luxembourg Minister will have a series of bilateral meetings with, among others, Zainab Bangura, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on the issue of sexual violence in conflict.
