On Thursday, Luxembourg's Minister for Media and Communication and Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, addressed members of Luxembourg's Press Council at a reception held at the MHNA museum in Luxembourg's city centre.
PM Bettel addressed the issue of access to information and explained that he is advocating a more transparent way of working with representatives of various government administrations being allowed to talk directly with members of the press instead of being funnelled through press spokespersons.
On the current state of review of the Aide à la Presse - the current criteria include that the publication must be printed, it must come out weekly or even daily, it must be in French or in German, 5 full-time journalists must be engaged on it, etc. - the scope is to be widened to include online news services. However, the total budget available will not be increased, it just has to be shared more equally to reflect today's digital age.
