It has been announced that Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn will visit Rome from 1 to 2 July 2015, at the invitation of Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni.
Minister Asselborn is also set to meet with Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano and Secretary of State for European Affairs, Sandro Gozi.
Discussions will focus initially on the issue of migration to the Mediterranean, in particular the current issue of the relocation of refugees from North Africa and the Middle East. Talks will also examine the different means available to the EU to support the country in its handling of this migration flow.
Minister Asselborn has also announced plans to travel to the island of Lampedusa in order to visit the refugee camp and assess the situation on the ground.
Bilateral relations between the two countries will also be discussed by the Italian representatives, as well as the Presidency of the Council of the European Union held by Luxembourg in the second half of 2015.
