The English-speaking Section of natur&ëmwelt is organising a "Get Fit by Nature" event on Saturday, 7 February 2015 from 09:30 - 15:00.
The area between the towns of Brouch and Bech is one of the last known places in Luxembourg where the Grey Partridge (Perdix perdix) breeds.
The aim of the event is to clear part of a site to open it up to create a wildflower meadow surrounded by a diverse hedgerow, which will provide shelter and a barrier against agricultural fields.
The site is an island of unused land surrounded by an agricultural desert. Such islands are important for the connectivity of insect and bird populations. It can also provide a breeding ground for many birds, most importantly the Grey Partridge.
An explanation of the site, its importance and the future plan for the development of the site will be given at the event.
The meeting point is at 09:30 at Wecker train station.
What to wear: hiking boots or footwear with a good grip, preferably waterproof; clothes suitable for the weather conditions; old clothes that you do not mind getting smoky from the fire, and preferably clothes that are not polyester as the ash that rises in the air might still be alight and settle on your clothes.
What to bring: gloves, if you have them; at least one litre of drinking water; hot drink, if you wish; a change of clothes, particularly if the weather is expected to be wet.
Families with children of 11 years or older are welcome. As there will be fires at the site, the organisers ask parents to supervise their children. Dogs are also welcome and will need to be supervised by their owner.
