One of the big highlights of the Ville de Luxembourg’s “Winterlights” initiative is the Knuedler on Ice skating rink, which will open this Saturday 6 December and only closes on 1 February 2015.

After a few years, this city Christmas experience is back, allowing family and friends the opportunity of spending an afternoon or evening skating together.

The partially-covered, 500 square-metre ice skating rink will be set up on Place Guillaume II in front of the Hôtel de Ville, which will create a nice link between the Christmas markets on the Place d’Armes and the Place de la Constitution (Golden Lady).

The rink will be decorated, featuring an eight-metre tall Christmas tree, two traditional Alsacienne cribs and a light display featuring 20,000 LED lights will illuminate the rink, whilst providing a beautiful spectacle for all visitors.

Adjacent to the rink, there will be a semi-open, heated area for spectators with a number of chalets selling hot drinks and snacks.

Knuedler on Ice will be open daily from 11:00 to 21:00 on Sundays through Thursdays, staying open until 23:00 on weekends.

Furthermore, the ice skating rink will be open on 24, 25 and 26 December, as well as on New Year’s Eve, when there will be music and entertainment provided from 20:00 until 01:00.

Entry to the skating rink costs €4, with rental skates costing €2.50 and use of a locker for €0.50, totalling €7 per hour. Gloves are compulsory.
