Danish Christmas Bazaar: A Great Commitment to Unity and Solidarity

The Bazar, which is organised the Danish Society in Luxembourg relies exclusively on the help and work of volunteers who contribute with items to be sold – all in benefit of the Danish church in Luxembourg. All of the proceeds from the event go towards maintaining the church.

Chairwoman of the Danish Church, Karna Elmqvist thanked all of the volunteers and guests for contributing and attending the event and the Danish Ambassador to Luxembourg, Belgium and the Vatican, Louise Bang Jespersson, was also on hand, highlighting the unity and solidarity that the people have continued to demonstrate over the years, binding the Danish community together in the Grand-Duchy.

The Prime Minister echoed those thoughts, stressing his government’s commitment to giving the expatriate community a voice and a say with regards to the decision-making in the country and citing a potential referendum for next year, before cutting the official ceremonial ribbon to mark the start of the day-long Bazaar.

Three choirs from the Danish church – children’s, teenagers, and adults – performed a few Christmas carols to get everyone in the festive spirit, after which everyone was invited into the main Bazaar hall 

Lots of different stands, presenting an assortment of items were on display, including many hand-crafted decorations and seasonal candles and wreaths, an arts and crafts station for the children, second-hand books and clothes, a wide range of Danish traditional foods and several Tombola prizes.

Speaking exclusively to the Luxembourg Chronicle, the Danish church vicar, Vicky Popp Fredslund reiterated her gratitude to all the volunteers who made the Bazaar and the church activities possible, as well as expressing her delight at the tight-knit spirit of unity and fellowship amongst not only the Danes, but also an increasingly active participation from the local community at the event.
