The English-speaking Section of natur&ëmwelt is organising a bus trip to see migrating cranes on Sunday, 10 November 2013 from 09:00 to 21:00.
In the autumn and spring, thousands of Cranes pass over Luxembourg on their way to their wintering/breeding grounds. Wintering on the Iberian peninsula and breeding in the boggy forests of Scandinavia and other vast tracts of northern Europe and Russia, they use the Lac du Der in the Champagne region as a staging post (http://goo.gl/maps/to5vb).
The Crane migration is one of the highlights of the ornithological year in Luxembourg: we are truly privileged to live bang smack under the western migratory flyway of these majestic birds. Once they’ve passed, though, we can get a second chance to see them by going to visit them at the Lac du Der.
