On 5 and 6 December 2016, the Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel undertook a joint mission to Tunisia with his Belgian and Dutch counterparts, Charles Michel and Mark Rutte.
During the visit to Tunisia, on 6 December, the Benelux Prime Ministers exchanged views with students from the National Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology of Tunisia.
During the exchange, Xavier Bettel stated in front of some 600 students: “During the Jasmine Revolution, the Tunisian people proved their determination and courage. You have marked a path founded on consensus and compromise.” He added: “If you continue in this direction, I am confident that your country will fully succeed in its process of political transition.”
Moreover, the three Benelux Prime Ministers had meetings with the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khemaies Jhinaoui, and the Minister of National Defence, Horchani Farhat, in which they discussed the security situation in Tunisia and cooperation with the Benelux countries.
Finally, Xavier Bettel attended the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Tunisia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Grand Duchy’s Chamber of Commerce. The agreement aims to intensify economic and business relations between the two countries as well as a memo between the Tunisian Professional Association of Banks and the House of Training of Luxembourg. This aims to provide specialised training programmes for professionals in the Tunisian finance sector.
