As part of the national initiative “Eat healthier, move more” (“Gesond iessen, méi bewegen”), Luxembourg will host its first ever National Day of Sport for Seniors on Friday 4 November 2016 between 09:15 and 16:30 at Geesseknäppchen campus (40, bd. Pierre Dupong, Merl).
The sports day will take place as part of Luxembourg’s health initiative “Eat healthier, move more”, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The event, which has been organised by the Ministry of Sport, the Luxembourgish Olympics and Sporting Committee and the Ministry for Family, Integration and the Greater Region, replaces the traditional sporting demonstration “Europe is standing” (“Europa beweegt sech”).
The day focuses on anyone aged 50 or above, regardless of their physical or sportive ability. Through a range of various activities, the organisers of the event wish to promote the benefits of regular physical activity and to encourage people aged 50 or more to live a healthy and active life.
There will be 38 sport workshops and others, held by some 40 qualified sports coaches, available to the 350 participants registered, most of whom are residents of retirement and care homes.
The event will begin at 09:15 with an opening ceremony at 09:45. Then, between 10:30 and 13:00 and 13:30 and 16:00, participants are invited to take part in the various workshops. There will be a lunch break in between. Finally, between 15:00 and 16:30, participants will have the opportunity to participate either in a dance workshop or a freestyle swimming session.
