The Fourchette Meet Arts initiative from the University of Luxembourg will see Jason Hamacher in the Grand Duchy on Wednesday 18 November 2015 at 12:30 - 13:30 at the University's Halle des Poches à Fontes at Campus Belval, in collaboration with the Fonds Belval & Lost Origin Sound.
Jason will share his experiences of people, sacred spaces and his unique archive of ancient prayers and hallowed rituals from Syria before the eruption of war put them in grave danger.
Jason is on a mini-tour which includes Uni Luxembourg, Uni Tübingen and then on to Geneva. In 2005 the Syrian Orthodox Church, one of the earliest Christian communities, granted Jason Hamacher permission to record their oldest choral traditions. Over 6 years he documented the ancient prayers, hallowed rituals, the sacred spaces of Syria. These recordings reflect the beauty of the country's ancient traditions and are a reminder to all that these traditions and places are in very great danger today.
The event is open to the public with free entrance. No prior registration necessary.
