The Administration des ponts et chaussées has announced that a 70 km/h speed limit has been put into place on the Gousselerbierg Tunnel on the A7 motorway due to technical defects on its extraction fans.
The technical defects were discovered during the recent biannual maintenance of the Gousselerbierg tunnel. Following previous defects discovered in April, the technical defects detected are not limited to a small number of fans, but it is a phenomenon that could affect all fans in the Gousselerbierg tunnel.
Given the current situation, the Administration des ponts et chaussées has stated that it is impossible to return to normal operation of the tunnel. Compensation measures need to be taken to ensure the safety of road users; as a result, a maximum speed limit of 70km/h is being enforced during peak hours; outside peak hours, the motorwaywill be closed to traffic in both directions. Video surveillance at CITA is being strengthened.
These measures shall be maintained for an extended period of several months.
