On 8 October 2015, Fondation Follereau Luxembourg (FFL) will be holding a new edition of its 'Discover the Undiscovered' event, this time about the forgotten Aka people living in the Central African rainforest.
The Aka Pygmies live in isolation in the Central African Republic as nomadic hunter-gatherers. Each day, the Aka face increasing difficulties which directly impact their lifestyle, forced to adapt their way of life to the new conditions dictated by globalisation.
The seminar will offer participants information on the daily life of the Aka and the way in which they combine tradition and evolution, as well as their current situation, their extraordinary adaptive ability, and the problems and solutions they face.
The evening, which will begin at 18:30 at Neimënster Abbey, will consist of a welcome drink and introduction by the FFL, followed by presentations from Jean-Pierre Nguede, an ethnologist of Franco-Cameroonian origin, on the adaptation skills of the Aka people; and Dieter Imhof, head of FAIRMED projects, on the FFL-FAIRMED prject in the Central African Republic.
