Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch, today swore in 43 CFL (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois) monitoring agents and 1 TICE (Tramways Intercommunaux du Canton d'Esch) monitoring officer, under Section Four of the amended Law of 19 June 2009 on the order and security of public transport.
An officer who is sworn in is then authorised to demand the display of tickets, to impose surcharges, to verify the identity of a person concerned and to this end require that the person in question exhibit a piece of identity if needed.
Sworn-in officers will also command the authority to order a person to leave the transport vehicle, should they be, by their behaviour, disturbing public order or the safety of public transport. In order to receive this authority, agents must have special training.
500 control officers have reportedly been sworn in since 2006.
