Neimënster, in collaboration with the Association de Soutien aux Travailleurs Immigrés (ASTI) and Association des Balkans, has organised an event on Friday 17 July 2015 dedicated to Balkan music in honour of the Srebrenica genocide of 1995.
'The Balkans Bloom' will commemorate the lives of the 8,000 men and boys who were murdered by Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska twenty years ago, after having taken refuge in an area protected by the United Nations. The Secretary-General of the United Nations described the mass murder as the worst crime on European soil since the Second World War. In 2009, the European Parliament recognised the genocide, and the Serbian Parliament, in turn, publicly apologised for the crimes, with international justice investigating the perpetrators.
The evening will therefore represent a reconciliation of the Balkan states, in the spirit of 'never again'. Twenty artists will take to the stage, with Wiener Tschuschenkapelle and Dubioza Kolektiv coming together for the first time in Luxembourg. The evening will involve a lively blend of genres, from Romany traditional music to Mediterranean serenades, Turkish tunes, Greek rembetiko and Bosnian sevdalinka.
Tickets cost €25 at standard rate, €12 at reduced price and €1,50 with a Kulturpass.
