St George’s International School, Luxembourg ASBL is participating in ‘My Urban Piano’ public artistic project, organised by the Ville de Luxembourg and the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO); a total of fifteen pianos have been placed in public places all over the Grand-Duchy’s capital from 6 to 21 June 2015.

The pianos, decorated by partners from the business, artistic and educational worlds have been located on streets, tourist spots, residential neighbourhoods and parks.

Students from Primary, Year 8 and Year 10 decorated one of the pianos as a group. The year 10 students based their decorative work on the artist Vic Lee; stencilling musically linked images as a background and adding detail with pattern and words. They felt that keeping to a black and white colour scheme would look effective and was more in keeping with the artists’ style. As the back panel of the piano was removed the Year 8 students created 3-dimensional instruments made from papier-mâché to sit inside three of the alcoves on the back of the piano. The Primary students added some silver and gold embossed metal panels providing visual and textural contrast.

The finished Urban Piano has now been placed outside the Theatre in the city centre for the public to play.
