Luxembourg's Administration des ponts et chaussées has announced that it is extending the speed restriction during the morning rush-hour period on the A6 and A1 motorways from Monday 6 January 2020.

Given the positive experience of the speed restriction during morning rush-hour traffic since its introduction on the A1 and A6 in June 2019, and pending a detailed evaluation of the results collected during the test phase, the decision has been taken to extend the limit of 90 km/h in 2020 between Sterpenich (Belgian border) and the Kirchberg interchange.

Initial results of the (short) first test phase have been encouraging: the traffic flow became more fluid and the lane changes and sudden braking maneuvers decreased. This resulted in a general increased flow of traffic, shortened travel time and the risk of accident was reduced.
