The inauguration of the first "SuperChargy" electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Diekirch took place on Thursday 5 October 2023, in the presence of Charles Weiler, mayor of the municipality of Diekirch, and of Claude Turmes, Luxembourg’s Minister for Energy.
The symbolic commissioning of this “SuperChargy” terminal, allowing charging speeds of up to 160 kW, is another step towards densification of the ultra-fast charging infrastructure throughout the national territory.
Minister Turmes said: “The installation of this first ultra-fast 'SuperChargy' charging station in Diekirch constitutes an important step for the inhabitants of the North of the country, in their facilitating the rapid charging of their electric vehicles. This terminal, like all public charging stations in Luxembourg, is powered 100% by green electricity, which helps us achieve our CO₂ emissions reduction targets.”
A total of 90 ultra-fast charging stations will be distributed across eighteen stations and motorway service areas as well as on other main roads throughout the Grand Duchy, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning noted. The installation of “SuperChargy” terminals, partly financed by the European Union “NextGenerationEU”, will extend across Luxembourg until 2024.
